Tirweddau│ Landscapes

Our senses are powerful tools that can help us connect with the world around us. When we take the time to slow down and engage with our surroundings, we allow the beauty of creation to seep into our minds. By observing  the colours, textures, and sounds of nature, the rustling of leaves in the wind or the sweet scent of warm grass  we can still ourselves in the moment and begin a journey of transformation.

breathe

Lichen

take your time

wait

a gentle breath alights your sun-warmed skin

there

there between the skylark and the peaty earth

you are

feel

beneath you ancient ocean bed

old red

sandstone

Devonian grown

old

older now

and do you know how many are in a million?

in ten million?

be still

this weight of time and tide

lays heavily abed

it sees each kingdom rise or fall

and feels your fleeting tread

breathe

yellow lichen setting down

upon the rocky folds

symbiotic algae fungi merge, grown

into a glorious alchemical gold

see

now you see the patchy gilt and grey

all upon the still and standing stone

not a bawbee but the shining crown,

the silver shillings strewn along the way

be still

breathe

bright daylight nudges you and here

among the wispy zephyr, wing and loam

hears but prayer and longing

the voice within the mind alone

be still and close your eyes

time and tide will ever march ahead,

but here they can be stilled awhile. For now

the wind and warmth and wild and wings will move

but lichen growing still

and slow

and sure

allows this precious moment, peaceful, pure

be still and close your eyes

breathe
